Kazakhstan to Host the Regional Ecological Summit

From April 22 to 24, 2026, Kazakhstan’s capital will host the Regional Ecological Summit for the first time, bringing together heads of state, experts, and leaders of international organizations on a single platform to address pressing environmental and water resource challenges and to reach agreements on key issues.
The Summit aims to establish an open international platform for developing joint, practical solutions to environmental challenges.
Approximately 1,500 participants from Central Asian countries, the European Union, SCO member states, and the Middle East are expected to attend to discuss urgent issues and advance intergovernmental cooperation.
The Summit will focus on eight key thematic areas:
- Adaptation and economic resilience to environmental and natural risks;
- Food security and the region’s ecosystem;
- Sustainable management of natural resources;
- Combating air pollution and improving waste management;
- Mechanisms for achieving environmental ambitions;
- A just and inclusive transition;
- Environmental and digital competencies;
- Supporting the climate transition.
The Summit is expected to conclude with the adoption of a joint declaration of the heads of Central Asian states.
The initiative to hold the Regional Ecological Summit 2026 (RES 2026) in partnership with the United Nations was announced by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in 2023.
International partners of the Summit include: the United Nations; OECD; IEA; IRENA; ADB; World Bank; EBRD; IWMI; and SWITCH-Asia.
