Strengthening regional cooperation in Central Asia for biodiversity conservation.

Central Asia’s ecosystems are closely interconnected and extend beyond national borders, making cooperation between countries essential for conserving biodiversity and ensuring sustainable natural resource management. At the same time, growing environmental pressures show that dialogue alone is no longer enough; practical and coordinated action at the regional level is needed.

This side event will bring together representatives of government institutions, international organizations, civil society, and the scientific community to discuss how to strengthen regional and transboundary cooperation in practice. The focus will be on advancing joint environmental initiatives, improving the management of shared ecosystems and landscapes, and developing coordinated approaches to addressing common environmental challenges. Particular attention will be given to the role of international agreements and organizations in supporting cooperation, promoting integrated approaches to biodiversity conservation, and mobilizing financial and technical resources.

During the event, participants will explore ways to develop joint initiatives, improve the management of shared natural areas, and strengthen cooperation among countries in the region.
