Following the session of the “Team Europe” initiative – EU–Central Asia: a high-level meeting on water resources, energy, and climate change in Central Asia, a press conference was held

“The holding of this session is of great importance for Kazakhstan, as the participation of “Team Europe” opens additional opportunities for attracting investment and technology within the framework of the European Global Gateway strategy,” noted Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan Nurlan Kurmalayev.

Special Envoy for Climate of the Government of Italy Francesco Corvaro noted that the European Union today once again reaffirms the significance of international cooperation.

“In the face of the challenges before us — such as water, energy, and climate — it is important to unite our efforts and work together. Especially in a region like this, where the climate-related crisis is immense. And, in my opinion, today we had the opportunity to rediscover how we can work jointly, combining the technologies and know-how that we have in Europe and in Italy, and that we can apply in practice in this region,” said the Special Envoy.

Another participant of the press conference, Special Representative of the European Union Eduards Stiprais, noted that this high-level meeting confirmed the commitment of the countries to strengthening cooperation in the field of sustainable development, combating climate change, and regional connectivity.

“During this meeting, the partners emphasized that water, energy, and climate are closely interconnected and require coordinated cross-sectoral solutions. The strengthened “Team Europe’” structure, supported by established coordination frameworks and the EU–Central Asia Platform for Environment and Water Cooperation, enhances policy coherence, regional dialogue, and operational impact.

The partners also reaffirmed their commitment to the Paris Agreement, including strengthening mitigation and adaptation measures, updated nationally determined contributions, and climate-resilient development”, -  noted Eduards Stiprais.

The next high-level meeting of the “Team Europe” initiative will take place in Europe in 2029.
