Kazakhstan will host the Regional Climate Summit in 2026

Tokayev met with the head of the Green Climate Fund.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Mafalda Duarte, Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The main topic of the talks was expanding cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Fund in the areas of sustainable development and climate change, inbusiness.kz reports, citing the Akorda press service.
During the meeting, the head of state emphasized that Kazakhstan attaches particular importance to environmental protection. He noted that the country is actively implementing measures to preserve and enhance forest resources, rationally use natural resources, and increase environmental responsibility.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also announced that Kazakhstan plans to host a Regional Climate Summit next year. The goal of this large-scale forum will be to develop collective solutions to key challenges, including adaptation to the effects of climate change, as well as ensuring food and water security in the region. In turn, Mafalda Duarte expressed support for Kazakhstan's efforts to overcome climate challenges. She praised the implementation of the National Adaptation Plan, developed with the participation of the Green Climate Fund and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This plan provides for the creation of a comprehensive disaster risk management system and an early warning system.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to the need to foster a culture of respect for nature in society. The parties noted the importance of educational work and raising environmental awareness among the population.

Following the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to further develop their partnership and implement joint initiatives within the framework of the global climate agenda.
