Almaty Hosts Preparatory Meeting Ahead of Regional Ecological Summit of Central Asian Countries

A preparatory meeting ahead of the Regional Ecological Summit of Central Asian countries (RES 2026) was held in Almaty from 25 to 27 February 2026. The event was organised by the Forestry and Wildlife Committee of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and GIZ.

Representatives of Central Asian countries, international organisations and development partners discussed regional initiatives titled “Green Shield” and “Harmony with Nature for the Sustainable Development of the Region”, which are set to be presented at RES 2026.

Particular attention was given to biodiversity conservation, restoration of forest ecosystems, combating land degradation, and strengthening regional cooperation in response to climate and environmental challenges.
